Or even just upkeep will become a tiring job. Why fix your robot
if someone else gets all the fun of breaking it, then setting it
aside for you to fix again.

I've noticed some of my robots get broken even just sitting
around. My balancing robot, runs with scissors has a broken
axle. How did that happen? No idea. Riding in my car I guess.
Never got around to playing with the walker "scout" yet. But his
foot has come apart. How did that happen? No idea. Someone
moving the box he was in I guess. ClearBot was supposed to be a
demo unit to show how to use thos motors Mike Keesling donated
to the club. It had a gripper mounted on the front and was a
potential CanCan robot. Last I saw it, it was shattered through
the frame. How did that happen? No idea. Someone must have
bumped it off the table, and set the pieces back where the robot
had been. Then the other day I walked past my EH-3 walker.
Looked like there were some wires loose. Wait, they were all
loose. Someone performed a brain-dectomy on it. How did that
happen? No idea. We have been short on ServoPod(TM)s but
this?!?!?!!! How will I ever remember how that wireless PS2
hooked up?

Now my tankbot! I know what happened there. It fried the whole
electronics stack, and I never got around to replacing the
stack.

I think my point can be summarized that even in a very
controlled environment like my office, house, etc. robots take
lots of upkeep and maintanence to keep going. How much more in a
club enviroment? And it takes someone who likes to do that
upkeep unselfishly, or it doesn't get done. Club robots to show
off would be wonderful. But can we really expect them to remain
working at any given time?

Randy
