Subject: [DPRG] Plano Amateur Radio Field Day

Date: Wed Jun 25 13:15:25 CDT 2008
What: Plano Amateur Radio Klub Field Day
When: Saturday June 28 1:00 p.m. until Sunday June 29 1:00 p.m. (24
hours straight)
Where: Hoblitzelle Park, 7500 Red River Drive. Plano
(North of Legacy, between Alma and Custer)
The Plano Amateur Radio Klub is having Field Day again this year at
Hoblitzelle Park. We and other Amateur Radio Clubs all over the country
set up outside using generated power or batteries, to practice operation
in emergency like conditions. Our Club will have a total of 6
transmitters operating for the 24 hour duration. 4 are long distance HF
transmitters, one is a VHF station, and the last is a GOTA (Get on the
Air) station. This one will be fun because we will let you get on the
air and see who you could make contact with around the country or
possibly around the world!
This is the Plano Amateur Radio Klub's (PARK) 35th year in existence.
Plano Mayor
Evans was nice enough to issue a proclamation citing our assistance in
emergency preparedness, and assistance with the Plano Christmas Parade,
and Plano Balloon Festival year after year.
When bad weather hits, many of our club members are out providing on the
ground eyes for the National Weather Service as part of Skywarn. We were
up and out when the tornado hit Plano earlier this year for example.
This will be interesting for older kids say 8 years and older. I think
the littler ones will be bored quickly.
I will be giving a presentation on long range WiFi, We had a 5 and 10
mile link working last month for the Richardson Wild Ride. I will be
talking about it at 3:00 p.m.
Let me know when you think you can make it and I will try to be around
to give you a tour. If you want to get on the air and try to contact
someone, I can make an appointment, or you can try your luck at walking
up if no one is using it. Let me know because the appointments are
booking. I still need a couple more under 18 people to Get On The Air.
For example Mayor Pat Evans is going to give it a try at 2:20 PM
Saturday.
We will also be giving the License exam at 5:00 p.m. If you want to try
to cram for the Technician License you should be able to learn it in a
couple of evenings. I think Ed Okerson will take the test there. You
need $14, SS#, and ID to take the test. Practice tests are
http://www.qrz.com/testing.html and http://aa9pw.com/radio/ are two
places on line. There are 35 questions and you have to get 70% to pass.
If you are consistently getting in the 85% or better you should take the
test.
