Excellent! 

Perhaps the students will be ready to compete in at least
the first of the exercises, which is basically a "can you turn
your robot on?" type of exercise and is designed to be as
entry level as possible.

The first out door exercise is for the robot to drive off some
distance and turn around and come back --- sort of an out door
version of the DPRG quick trip competition.  This is supposed to
be the most basic possible exercise, requiring no sensors ---
could be done with timing alone even without wheel encoders or
odometry.
