I'm not sure why they chose ubuntu, but I can tell you that I chose to
install ubuntu on my laptop over RedHat for a couple of reasons:
1 - Active community
2 - I prefer the debian based package managers. They deal with
dependencies much better than RPM based package managers. Ubuntu, uses
a debian based pacakage manager, whereas RedHat uses RPMs.
3 - Ubuntu has a live-CD, which means you can boot off the CD and test
things out. I imagine RedHat has this by now as well, but I'm not
sure.
