Howdy,
I'm using the Mini Robominds robot controller on a couple of robots:
<http://www.robominds.com/>
including the jBot robot. There are some notes about it here:
<http://www.geology.smu.edu/~dpa-www/robo/jbot>
As Randy mentioned, AVRs are also very popular in our club along
with NMIs 'pods. Larry Barello of the Seattle Robotics Society
has done a lot of AVR work, check out his "AVR and Robotics"
homepage at:
<http://www.barello.net/>
Also a very interesting thread on the difficulties of using
a PC platform for robotics by Robert Scheer over on the SRSList,
<http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/SeattleRobotics/message/35765>
best luck with your project!
