DryRun recap:
Successes:
0) We got 3 people to build, code and try their robot; that's better
than just talking.
1) Eric visited from Dallas
2) Participants got to show off the results of their labor.
3) Waypoints marked with tape
4) A practice day 2 weeks prior to the event let each participant
know where he stood and what he needed to do.
5) The weather cooperated
Needs improvement:
0) More seating and privacy
1) More participants
2) Robots' capabilities
3) Waypoints marked with *brown* tape (hard to see against dirt and
dried leaves).
4) Marking the waypoints before the event took too long.
5) Waypoint marking method was neither very accurate nor fair--if it
were a competition (Dean used his robot's GPS to read coords, placed
tape on ground under robot)
From the came-out-of-nowhere department:
0) A 10-year old kid ran down and kicked one of the robots
Venue pros: Parking, bathroom, water fountain, electrical outlet,
shelter with roof (shade helps see laptop screen in sunlight),
variety of terrain (paved, grass, little slopes, obstacles), 4 miles
from 2 major highways, off of a major street.
Venue cons: Crowded with park-goers so shelters were taken, kickball
being played on waypoint #4.
#1 Tip: make every effort to do a practice run 2 weeks prior.
