Ham radio made a huge difference in my life. I had my Novice at
11 and Advanced at 13. That was back in the 60's. I operated
until college, then went active USNR, and had no opportunity to
operate there after. A child can learn a great number of useful
skills which can last a life time in their early years. I
already had more electronics under my belt than my University
taught, which freed me to dabble in many other interesting
subjects.
