Some rhetorical questions: Can machines be surprised? Does an
RTOS act surprised when it's on the edge of failing to be
isochronous? I guess not, if it's correctly implemented, but what
about recovery from hardware failures while the thing is still
flying? Would the machine work better if it had a notion of
fright?
Some fun: I love some of the terms the computer industry uses,
such as:
Surprise Hot Plug followed by Bit Stuffing. That's probably a
misdemeanor in Texas. The offender might be charged with a Read
With Intent To Modify, but he might get off with the lesser
charge of Read With No Intent To Cache.
Or, for the old RCA COSMAC micro: the convenience of using
"embedded commands" and "implied SEX" (SEt X register).
Have fun.
