Hello all,
     I took everyone's suggestions and here's what I came up with.  After
increasing the clock frequency to 12 MHz and still not properly
receiving the data stream I'm attempting to switch to an interrupt
driven system.  The problem I'm having now is getting the interrupt
to run.  I don't have a code snippet here, I'll have to send it
tonight but global interrupts are enabled as are the receiver bit
waiting flag and the generate interrupt on receive complete flag.  I
turn off interrupts while the handler is running thinking that maybe
the handler was taking too long but I still didn't get the debug
output from the handler.

     Any ideas?  I'll post code tonight.
