dpa, Randy, et al:
I neglected to post that I think Dave has very valuable ideas and
observations about using the existing floor markings and walls of
TSP. His observations are useful even though I would want there
to also be a contest where the robot "did" something.
Knowing that there was a lot of discussion about the photo paper
and the brand of white tape used, IMHO (again, not from a
builder, yet), the thing about "my robot can't tell the
difference between shiny black and shiny white" is just too bad.
Or, "my robot can't traverse the tile grout crack." Also, just
too bad. I think that's what the tabletop contests are for.
When people complained that the sunlight affected their IR
sensors, I also thought "too bad". When I started playing with
sonar, I realized that it would have to function in a negative
SNR environment, that is, where the screaming kids are louder
than the pings. Remember, just because we can't hear 40KHz
doesn't mean that the environment is quiet at that frequency.
Thanks, Dave, for useful suggestions that make use of the
interesting venue.
Randy's comments about crowd control are valid.
Have these discussions already been had in the past?
I think Dave will have something to say about running the contest
at a mall, something about the mall guard saying, "We don't allow
those kind here," or some such. Hah!
Later,
John Swindle
