I just checked my robot, and verified that it will go over a wooden yardstick.
While I don't have any objection to printed yardsticks being used, it
might be interesting to come up with an "obstacle scale" for
successful traversing.
Here's my suggestion:
0 = Billiard-table smoothness.
1 = Hardwood floor.
2 = Standard wooden yardstick.
3 = 2 magazines stacked up.
4 = Paperback ("The C Programming Language - Kernighan and Ritchie")
5 = Hardback ("Mobile Robots - Inspiration to Implementation")
6 = Standard floor detritus - socks, t-shirts, etc.
7 = Sleeping dog (non-injurious to obstacle, required.)
8 = Sleeping brother (injury to obstacle is OK.)
9 = Stairs, really irregular ground, etc.
