I have had several people bring this up. The floor of the course will
be the floor of whatever room we happen to be in, so we need to be
careful about how we secure things to it. Tape could easily damage
the floor, and so whatever we use for the finish line needs to have
the structural integrity to get rolled over. Dale is looking into
beveling the leading edge of the yardstick to a 45 degree angle or so,
so that the robot meets a ramp instead of a cliff. Also, I think the
purpose of the competition is still served if the robot gets stuck at
the finish line instead of crossing it.
