Yes, the cell and the pager motor are directly wired. I took
this assembly out of a previously assembled "frightened
grasshopper" solar kit. Less than $6 for all.

In the video you can see this on bounces and moves around a bit,
but has none of the speed and directionality of the bristlebot.
Saw another post (chibots list iirc) where someone had trimmed
the leads of the bristlebot down about 1/4 of their original
length to make it more stable. I can't imagine that is easy to
do and get even.

Excellent! Did you wire the solar cell directly to the motor?
Where did you get the solar cell are you used?
