For larger robots that can carry the computing power needed, I would like a
RGBZ camera. Z is range. There is a company making flash LIDAR, but the
cost is high. Even a short range scanning laser range finder is over 2K
dollars. My guess is that sonar is a mature product and we will not see
much if any improvement over current products. I hope that IMUs like jBOT's
get cheaper. Cheaper radar obstacle detection is possible. The sad thing
is that sensors designed for robots will probably be expensive due to low
production. So we must hope that some mass marketed product needs the
sensors we can use.
