I totally agree with your statement here, with the one exception that I
don't find it distasteful, but instead accurate and pithy.
There's no accounting for taste...
Philosphers have for centuries tried to understand the nature of human
thought, a project that is far from complete today. Modern AI researchers
are attempting to do the same thing, and then model the results. In that
sense, they are attempting to make philosophy an empirical science. I've
not seen it stated better.
And now for a seeming non-sequitor: did you know that Sir Isaac Newton was
heavily into alchemy? Food for thought.
