[DPRG] Tamiya Twin-Motor Gearbox Encoder

Rick,

Funny you should mention the magnet solution. My first attempt at
closing the control loop was with magnets. I glued magnets to the
back side of the crown gears and positioned hall effect sensors
between the crown and spur gear. Everything was going great until I
assembled both halves of the gearbox. The interaction of the magnets
either slammed the gears away from each other or toward each other,
depending on how I mounted them. That was one loud Tamiya gearbox.
The magnets I used were axially magnetized neodymium discs, 1/16" dia
x 1/32" thick.

Using weaker magnets or maybe more physical separation by using other
gears may yield better results.
