Bill -
I found your response to a question posted in 1999 at DPRG. I have a wheelchsir controller from Dynamic Controls model GPC36630 Rev 1 1999.  I have done exactly as you described by removing the inductive joystick and replacing it with a voltage divider controlled by a PICAXE 18X.  The voltage divider output is exactly the same as the original joystick.  I get a controller failure when this circuit is attached to the controller. Remove the voltage circuit and replace the joystick and the error goes away. I cannot find any differences between the output of my circuit and the joystick.
Any suggestions?
