Subject: [DPRG] DPRG at the Intl Space Development Conference
The 2007 International Space Development Conference will be in Dallas
this year and they've asked the DPRG to participate. The conference runs
Fri May 25 - Mon May 28. We'll have a 6' table in the exhibit area.
We've talked about doing something more extensive like holding a contest
there so I wanted to get some feedback from the group. Here's a quick
list of items for your consideration:
1. I need volunteers for the DPRG table. I also need to come up with
some robots to display on the table.
2. The ISDC organizers are trying to get permission to use some land
behind the hotel for an outdoor robot event. How many people would be
interested in participating a simple waypoint navigation event for
outdoor robots?
3. If an outdoor event turns out not to be possible, how many of you
would be interested in an indoor, Roborama style event?
4. The ISDC folks have offered us the possibility of doing a
presentation at the conference itself. They have an education track and
would be interested in a robots-in-education talk. They'll consider
other topics as well if anyone is interested (hmmm... maybe a
presentation on sending a DPRG robot to the moon?)
This is a pretty big conference and there will be lots of interesting
people there ranging from science fiction authors like Larry Niven to
homebrew rocket builders like John Carmack (who'll be bringing along an
Armadillo Aerospace Quad launch vehicle). For more info the conference,
see their website:
