I'll tell a story about motor noise and an MRM board.
I had a Tamiya twin motor gearbox with an MRM mounted about an inch
above it, and there was an LCD attached to the LCD.
Initially, I had a single battery for both.
Whenever the motors ran, the LCD would get gibberish on it and the
processor would eventually crash.
I added optical isolation, which helped a bit, but still gibberish.
Then I added a grounded metal shield (thin sheet of aluminum) between
the motors and the CPU and helped a bit more.
Adding 3 caps to each motor completely eliminated the noise problem.
So the conclusion I came to is that electrical isolation isn't enough.
You have to worry about radiated noise as well, especially if the CPU
is physically near the motors.
