I have done a similar effort for use in my "Intro to Robotics"
class at UNI, which worked very well in practice. The link below
shows third generation pass at the problem.

The Mini-Sumo Adapter board spreads connections from our
PlugaPodT to useful mounting points on the Mark III mechanical
base kit. We also hope to work out how it can be used with some
of our other PlugaXXX boards such as the ARM in the future.
We have:
Front
1 ON-OFF Switch
2 battery pack connections series
2 Digital Line Sensors L-R (i.e. QRB1134)
2 Analog Line Sensors L-R
2 Digital Range Sensors L-R (i.e. GP2D15)
2 Analog Range Sensors L-R (i.e. GP2D12)
Sides
2 Sonar connectors. L-R (i.e. SRF04)
2 Quadrature connectors L-R (i.e. WW-01)
2 H-bridge Outputs L-R (754410)
1 Reset Switch
2 Push Button Digital Input Switches
Rear
6 PWM Outputs 3 L-R
4 Analog Range Sensors L-R (i.e. GP2D12)
1 Digital Line Sensor (i.e. QRB1134)
1 Digital Sensor (i.e. IRPD)
With this configuration we were able to host and test a wide
variety of other sensors, by making special connectors,
including sense switches, proximity detectors, digital compass,
accelerometers, and gyros.

Hello all,
I was thinking of designing a circuit board for use as a simple
robot controller for SUMO robot or other applications to make
things easier for those people who may not be skilled in the art
of the mechanics of robot construction, or just don't want to go
to the trouble. I am planning to make provisions on the board
for the most frequently used sensors and outputs used in SUMO or
other simple robots. So far, this is the list of devices I have
come up with.
