Howdy,

Several of us are planning to do an outdoor robot contest
practice after next month's DPRG meeting at The Science Place.

I have a list of GPS waypoints for various places on the
Fair grounds, and we have John's corrected locations for
Martin's waypoints behind the museum. I'll try to collect
all these in one place and post the results.

I've talked to the Fair grounds security officiers and told
them what we are doing and I also demo'd jBot for them (they
loved it), and they said "no problem."

I think the consensus is that most would like to practice
on simpler courses, ones a little further from the water. ;)

Probably a good start will be to find just one GPS waypoint,
with no obstacles. There are lots of eletrical, mechanical
and software problems to solve to get to that stage.

The club tankbot also has a special requirement that it
needs to run or concrete or gravel, but not grass, at least
not yet. I think there are several places in Fairpark that
will work fine for that.

Also, if we can entice Chris Jang to bring his robot, there
are several places, long sidewalks bordered by grass, that
should work well with his vision-based navigation.

I know our friends from Austin and Houston also mentioned
that they would like some practice time with their robots.

So, let's make it a post-DPRG meeting outdoor robot party and
practice next month, and we'll all be ready for the next
contest... :)

best regards,
dpa
