Hi all, i need a little help.
I tried to program an 8051 through parallel port isp (AEC_ISP V3). The thing
is, not only did it not download the program to the mcu but it ended up
burnt. I did the same test at college and it did not download the program
but the mcu survived.
This has me thinking. Maybe it´s static buildup in my room (there´s a carpet
in here) or maybe my parallel port is damaged.
For the parallel port, i used it to drive my first project some time ago,
just a simple LED array with 330ohm resistors. I did not use buffers and i
used the port to source current (now i know this is not good). What i need
right now is a good method to test the port for damage. Even further, i need
to know what kind of damage could it have suffered, and what problems could
be arising from it. Sure i can test for 5V and GND, but what else could be
wrong? Could it be sourcing more current? Could it be having voltage spikes?
Remember that any mcu that i try to program here dies in my hands (4
already, 10U$D of dead silicon!!!!).
As for the ESD, there is quite a buildup, yes. But previously no other IC
died in here. I have used both TTL (LS) and CMOS (HC) circuitry, both logic
gates and MSI ICs. Supposedly CMOS ICs are more prone to damage from ESD,
yet none died. Could it be that a DIP 8051 is more sensitive? Maybe because
of the onboard flash?
This is REALLY important to me, since my project is on a deadline on
december 20th and i still can´t program the damned IC!
