I'm working on a project where I need to draw 6V at about one amp continuously, and about two amps for a minute or so peak. I have been working with some cheap, old laptop batteries I found at first Saturday, thinking that 2700mAh lithium-ion batteries would be perfect for me. However, after only a few charge cycles, one battery appears dead, and another can't supply the power I need.
So, I'm in the market for a new battery system. I was hoping to tap into the dprg pool of real world experience to see what battery chemistries work the best. Should I just get some NiCad packs and call it a day? Is it practical to use nickle-metal hydrides? Ideally, I'd like something that's simple to charge, doesn't weigh too much, and hopefully can last more than an hour. What's worked best for you guys?
