That was the main objection of someone at robot lunch also.
My original intent is that if the robot knocks over a can, it is penalized.
The robot in this event should know where it is and it should be able to
detect cans. If it misses one and knocks it over, it should suffer a
penalty.
It can get 25 points for locating and returning a can. 5 points off if it
knocks one over is not a lot of penalty.
We could turn it around and add 5 points for each can standing.
In the other side, what about robots that scoop or hold cans on the robot?
I don't think it matters. If they are tipped over then they get less
points. Some people disagree.
I am looking for consensus here.
I think the next big challenge is navigation. That is why I put a secondary
emphasis on placing cans in a known pattern. It will make it easier for the
judges to score, as opposed to placing them in a pattern TBD pattern.
I did notice that SRO4 was lost as to where it was, and it hit the wall a
couple of times. Both problems I was under the impression were solved by
David Anderson long ago. It appears I was mistaken. So there is still
room for everyone to be challenged.
