I have a question about the contest: are thier objects other than cans and balls in the arena? How many balls/cans are placed for a given event?
I think a time limit would be a good idea, this would force people to build more reliable systems. I think 3 times is a perfect number of trials, scoring the best out of three as your performance. Why not just ban all photography during the events. That would also be incentive to pay attention (since you won't have that kodak moment to oogle over years later.)..
